Been here today, whilst using the Yellow Bus Company Castles trip out to Matosinhos. Arrived about 1130, the owner was outside preparing the coals for the street barbecue, and we could see the fresh selection of fish in the window. Without any pressure to enter, his wife told us what fish was on show and the price, even advising that one portion was big enough for two people!! There was sea bass, sea bream, swordfish, prawns, cuttlefish, squid, salmon , red snapper and more- we had a walk round the beach area, and about an hour later went back for lunch. After a lovely warm padron pepper salad , with a lage plate of 3 kinds of fresh bread, the owners wife appeared with 2 freshly grilled sardines from the grill -they were crispy salty and delicious. My husband then tucked into a large entrecôte steak with chips and salad ( he's not really a fishy person but succumbed to my request for fresh fish lunch) while I had a large whole red snapper with new potatoes and garlic butter. It was delightful . After a short break, we had 2 home made desserts, both from the region. A bottle of chilled Vinho Verde accompanied our meal, and a coffee to finish. The price? 40 euros. A great friendly family run restaurant with fresh food, well cooked at a reasonable price. Well deserves the No1 spot ******
