Simple and deliciuosEvery time I am in Porto, I can't loose the occasion to have a good meal at o Lusitano. The food is simple but delicious with everyday fresh fish. The personnel speaks french and some english and I think it's enough because the meal speaks for himself.
It's a must
Pesce, pesce e ancora pesce! Prezzi assolutamente abbordabili, gentilezza e simpatia. Per me e' spettacolare.
Grilled fish dosen't get any better. This was an accidental find for me, but the couple at the next table, a Portuguese sailor and wife had made a special journey from another town. He came on the recommendation of a friend in Porto so this place must have something of a reputation. We both thought we were lucky to find it. This is a small family run restaurant that serves wonderful grilled fish, splendid side dishes of potatoes, beautifully roasted peppers and very decent wine.
The fish is fresh bright eyed and shiny, displayed on crushed ice in a refrigerated window bed. You can pick your own or just ask for a selection. My wife and I visited twice and had a different selection on each occasion. Both were wonderful. Cooking over charcoal (on the grill outside) had given each type of fish a gently charred skin whilst retaining a moist interior. I don't think fish can be grilled any better than this.
O Lusitano is not a tourist trap, the prices are very reasonable and the staff are all warm and friendly. This is the sort of restaurant that you read about in travelogues but may never find unless you are very lucky. Go there and share the luck.
