Seven of us ate there after reading about the place. We took the metro out from the centre - about 45m door to door and easy to do on the modern metro system. I had booked in advance by phone using English as my Portuguese is non-existent and when one calls they had to get the one member of this family who speaks English to deal with me. All good. On arriving our table is ready and we are waited about by a friendly woman with excellent English. Using the menu is not really done/necessary. She lists a range of starters and we pick two types of cheese, squid, grilled sausage and prawns. She then talks through their fish that day and she is delightfully open and honest about sizes and we try to agree the English translation for the fishes. We had three types and while we ate our starters these were grilled outside on the cold November street. The three plates of fish were large and excellent and then two plates of new potatoes also turned up. Fresh fish. Her mother makes the desserts and we had a range of cakes with port afterwards. While eating the local dental school singing group (!) come in busking and sing three songs. Not quite fado but pleasant. All in it came to €200 for 7 with lots of pleasant dry white wine, water, port and three courses. Clients mostly local with one other table of possible tourists. Not flash with paper napkins and paper table cloths but come here for the friendly service and excellent fish at reasonable prices. Lots of other places on the street with no doubt keen competition.

Seconda sera a Matosinhos per cena decidiamo di provare il ristorante O Lusitano. Ambiente informale ma piacevole e titolari cordiali, Si opta per caldo di cereali, due razioni di lulas alla brace con patate ed una razione di sardine alla brace anch'esse con contorno di patate. Accompagnano la cena due mezze bottiglie di buon vino bianco ed una bottiglia di acqua minerale.Per dessert una catalana, una torta con confettura di frutto della passione e caffè. Si esce soddisfatti ed una spesa complessiva di euro 40.

Io ed un mio amico preso 1/2 porzione di seppia e 1/2 di calamari (1/2 significa una razione). OTTIMO!!! Consigliatissimo
